The Phoenix Firebirds, a Giants farm club, were members of the Pacific Coast League from 1986 to 1997. The club departed Phoenix in order to accommodate the coming of MLB's expansion Arizona Diamondbacks. The Firebirds made the PCL playoffs in their final year, 1997, but lost the championship series to the Edmonton Trappers.
